Choosing the Right HID Bulbs for Your Headlights
When we were developing our HID bulbs, one of the first things we had to account for was that warm-up lag, watching the capsule glow dim for a good ten seconds before snapping up to full brightness. That is just how xenon works, and it is the first thing any HID shopper should expect going in.
XB HID bulbs span 3000K to 6000K, and across our own bench testing, 5000K and 6000K landed right in the sweet spot, the purest white output we could measure for real-world driving. The capsules use 100% Philips quartz glass with halide salts from German supplier Messer and Austrian Plansee electrodes, which is what holds color consistency batch to batch. Rated lifespan sits around 2,500 hours, so figure 3 to 5 years under normal use. Run them on a 55w ballast instead of 35w and you'll pick up about 20% more lumens, but the color shifts roughly 1000K cooler.
If you're unfamiliar with HIDs, the bulb alone will not plug into your stock wiring if you are converting from halogen. It needs a ballast and relay harness to actually fire.
If you're building a complete kit from scratch, check out our HID Systems. Here you can choose your bulb size and select the ballast and any additional wiring harnesses all from one place.
