Morimoto HID is well regarded as a supplier of top quality aftermarket ballasts for automotive lighting applications. Though we are most well known for our projectors; ballasts make up almost fifty percent of our total sales volume. The popular design has become a staple in many outlets as an excellent aftermarket ballast, however many of our clients choose Morimoto as their OEM supplier, and therefore much of our annual production cannot be recognized as our own brand. We are able to recycle the advanced internals from our ballasts into other form factors so clients can design the look of their own, but without the need to worry about how it will function.
With thousands of hours of research, a brand-new automated production line, and over one half million dollars spent on new ballast technologies alone; we're more confident here than ever before. After a cold-climate problem struck ballasts that were distributed to North America; more focus has been spent on our R&D for this product line compared to any other in recent years and we are proud to say that it shows in the numbers. Power consumption is half if what it used to be. Warm up time is twice as fast. Failure rate is 1% within 2000 hours. Demand is up by 30%.
Our all-new XB series feature ASIC (application specific integrated circuitry) reduces the total number of components required inside the ballast while greatly increasing operating efficiency. The ballast can start with less than 5 Amps while preserving the warm up speed and stability of the xenon bulb. Just as important as igniting the lamp is preserving the longevity of its output; therefore Morimoto has recently adopted negative pressure operation as our standard. Because this is very hard to achieve, we have joined a group of only two other companies who program their ballasts this way: Hella and Panasonic.
Recently, we have moved the high voltage igniter away from all crucial circuits, which removes all chance of failure due to discharge from hot strikes, increases the potential energy reaching the bulb to reduce the chances of misfire, and produce near zero levels of electromagnetic radio interference. The unique igniter cables are detachable from the main ballast using special D1 connectors. This gives end-users the flexibility to switch between 35w and 50w with AMP or D2S outputs on the fly. It also gives distributors an inventory advantage to maintain stock for different configurations regardless of fluctuating demand.
Whether used in retrofitting or as original-equipment replacements, our ballasts can be had with P32-D outputs with an inline igniter, or more basic cables to use with D1S and D1R lamps. For compatibility with nearly every aftermarket H series bulbs and traditional HID kits, our ballasts are also offered with AMP connectivity. All of our ballasts are weather resistant against moisture and adverse weather conditions ranging from -40C up to 200C, ensuring your travels are always safely lit, no matter the road.
For only the cost of all associated molds, our team can develop an all-new ballast that suits your own needs. No matter if it should simply look different or fit a certain form factor for a special assembly, please consider our OEM service.
